Actual prices depend on the provider and the goods and services you select. Under the FTC Funeral Rule, funeral homes must give you an itemized General Price List.

How the estimate works

The calculator adds up general planning ranges for each item you select, in the same categories funeral homes use on their General Price Lists:

  • Funeral home services: basic services of the funeral director and staff, transfer, embalming and preparation, viewing, ceremony, vehicles
  • Merchandise: casket, alternative container, outer burial container, urn
  • Cemetery: plot, mausoleum or niche, opening and closing, marker
  • Cash advance items: certified death certificates, obituary notices, flowers

The ranges were compiled by our editorial team as broad illustrations of typical price-list items. They are not survey data, not any funeral home’s prices, and not a quote. Prices vary between providers, and many items are optional. We review the ranges periodically; see our editorial policy.
